The Union’s Annual Meeting adopted the motion to reduce Electoral Districts, thereby reducing the number of National Executive members. The rule will be registered and take effect from December 2011 when the next election for NEC representatives and Union Officers will be held.

The motion for a compulsory combined associate and pass card did not obtain the necessary two thirds majority and was rejected by the delegates despite emphasis made by the Executive that this is the Union’s life blood and that without it the future of the Union is in jeopardy.

Only 767 delegates attended the Conference, despite over 900 credentials being issued.

The first item on the agenda for the meeting was a moments silence in tribute to the former President, Mr Colin Wright, who died recently after suffering a stroke. Colin stood for election as President in December 2009 but was defeated by George Dawson the current President.

The Union was Colin’s life and he was involved at Branch and National level for many years. He is sadly missed by his colleagues on the National Executive and at the South East Midlands Branch.
